Birth Certificate A Birth Certificate is an official public document issued by the competent authority, ordinarily the Registrar of Births and Deaths, under the provisions of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, certifying the occurrence and particulars of a person’s birth. It constitutes primary and reliable proof of the date, place, parentage, and identity of an individual. In the context of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, a Birth Certificate assumes evidentiary value as a public document within the meaning of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, and may be relied upon during investigation, inquiry, or trial. It is commonly used to establish age, identity, nationality, and familial relationships, particularly in matters relating to juvenile justice, age determination, matrimonial disputes, succession, and criminal liability.
